Ceramics Workshop : 20.01.2024 at 2 PM with Teresa Dorey
English & French, in-person at articule.

Artist and educator Teresa Dorey is offering a free clay workshop at Articule centred on creating space for processing emotions on January 20th.

As we witness the increase of catastrophic and inescapable realities of imperial violence, we are experiencing symptoms of collective grief. This workshop will use clay as a modality for mindfulness and grounding. By reworking earth into small ceramic vessels, this workshop will offer the use of creative expression to process emotions while encouraging learning together as an act of community building.

Grief is a powerful emotion that can be alchemical. It’s a poignant reminder of our ability to love, experience profound emotions, cultivate empathy, and connect through our shared humanity. Embracing and making room for grief allows it to evolve into a formidable ally that can help mobilize change. Ceramics share an alchemical process that transforms earth through fire, air and water to create a new form. This workshop offers a place for connection and community building while providing an outlet for grief.

Studies have shown that working with clay for as little as a 45-minute session can significantly reduce cortisol levels and increase dopamine levels. Lower cortisol helps to mitigate stress and alleviate anxiety; increased dopamine promotes well-being and relaxation. This session will encourage community building and respair by learning as a group.

All ages workshop, families welcome, no prior experience with clay is needed, and materials will be provided. Please sign by sending an email to James at outreach@articule.org and share with those you think might interested in participating.

Liberation for all!
